Service Description
MTN SMS Roaming Making Calls while roaming
Imagine travelling all over the world and keeping in touch with friends, family and colleagues with your MTN contract or PayAsYouGo cellphone. Now you can do just that with MTN SMS Roaming! Keep connected from just R1.50 per SMS and be in full control of your cellphone roaming costs MTN SMS Roaming allows you to send and receive SMSs in over 500 international partner networks all over the world. It is the best value for staying connected at a low cost.

Make and receive calls and SMS while roaming Making Calls while roaming
To a South African fixed-line number: Dial the international prefix (+) or (00) followed by the SA country code (27), the city code (21) without the preceding zero, and the number. E.g.+27 21 987 6543.
To a South African cellphone that is in S.A. or anywhere else in the world: Dial the international prefix (+) or (00) followed by the SA country code (27), then cellphone number, but without the preceding zero. E.g. +27 83 123 1234.
To call a local landline number in your destination country, dial the local area code and number as you would if you were in South Africa.

Receiving calls while roaming
No matter where you are in the world, local callers can phone you. If the caller is in South Africa, they need to dial your number normally but if they are also roaming, they have to follow the process of making calls while roaming as explained above. Calls will be routed through MTN South Africa to your international location. The rate you will pay for incoming calls depends on the Continental Zone you are roaming in.

Sending a SMS while roaming
To send an SMS to an international number: Type your message as normal and enter the number in the international format (see ‘Making calls while roaming’ above).
To send an SMS to a local number: Type your message as normal and enter the local number of the roaming country as is.

International Voicemail Retrieval
Dial *111*100# from your cellphone and MTN will give you a call back, allowing you to listen to your voice messages. The cost of this call will be charged at the receiving roaming call rate of your international destination, based on your location.You can also dial +27 83 100 0000 to access your voicemail box directly. The call will be charged as a roaming call from your international destination to South Africa…

i-Mail
Manage your Voicemail, FaxMail and VideoMail online from anywhere in the world using MTN’s free i-Mail service. Before you leave, simply register online to register to use this service while travelling.

Call Barring
In spite of our special rates for receiving calls, if you should still wish to, block all or selected incoming calls while abroad, maintaining your ability to make calls. Barring incoming calls lets the caller know your number is not available and terminates the call without an option for leaving a voice message.

Call Divert
Divert incoming calls to your voicemail or another number and only pay for calling to listen to your voicemail. If calls are diverted to voicemail unconditionally, this is free to you and when diverted to another number, you will be charged for the diverted call. The caller only pays for the locall call to your cellphone number.

Wherever you go, MTN will be there to welcome you. Together with our worldwide partners, MTN will automatically connect you on arrival to the preferred network in your destination country and give you basic information on services available.
